REPORT OF SGBV SENSITIZATION HELD ON FRIDAY 4TH OF JULY 2025 AT FAVOUR SCHOOLS, BENIN CITY.

As part its sensitization programs on SGBV, Justice Development and Peace Centre (JDPC) Benin conducted a one-day sensitization at Favour School along Saint Saviour Road in Benin City, Edo State, on July 4, 2025. JDPC team, alongside IT students from the University of Benin, visited the school to educate children and staff about Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), its consequences, and effects.

During the sensitization, the children were taught about the dangers of SGBV and encouraged to shun violence in any form, while also being urged to be their brother’s keeper. The staff members were advised to encourage and monitor the children, reporting any form of violence that may occur among them, and the school was encouraged to create a counseling room for children to report incidents. The children were also encouraged to speak out against SGBV, regardless of the perpetrator or location.

Additionally, JDPC Benin donated the VAPP law handbook to the school to educate students and staff about the laws and dangers associated with SGBV. The children promised to avoid and be aware of SGBV, and the team sang the SGBV song with them. The head teacher thanked the team for their visit and promised to support the children in curbing SGBV in their community.
