SPREADING THE LIGHT OF JUSTICE AND FAITH: CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING COMES ALIVE AT UNIBEN

In a powerful collaboration between the Catholic Law Students Association of Nigeria (University of Benin Chapter) and the Justice Development and Peace Centre (JDPC), Benin, students and members of the University community gathered today, Wednesday, 9th April 2025, for a profound session on Catholic Social Teaching.

Held at St. Albert Catholic Church, University of Benin, the event featured a keynote presentation by Rev. Fr. Benedict Onwugbenu, Director of JDPC Benin, who passionately unpacked the principles of Catholic Social Teaching and its relevance to justice, peace, and social transformation in today’s world.

The session inspired students—especially future legal professionals—to embrace the values of human dignity, solidarity, the common good, and preferential option for the poor in their academic and professional journeys.

In her closing remarks, Obehi Egbadon, President of the Catholic Law Students Association of Nigeria, UNIBEN Chapter, expressed gratitude for the collaboration and emphasized the importance of grounding legal practice in ethical and faith-based principles.

This event marks a renewed commitment to forming a generation of leaders equipped not only with legal knowledge but with a deep moral compass rooted in the teachings of the Church.
